1) If the deceased has no children from any other spouse, other than the one who survives that spouse, the entire estate goes to the surviving spouse.
2) If one of the decedent’s descendants is not also a descendant of the surviving spouse, the surviving spouse gets $50,000 plus one half of the estate balance.

The estate goes to the state of Utah for the benefit of the state school fund.
